Google’s customers are not really the people who use Android phones. Their true customers are the companies who crave user data. Google doesn’t sell phones. They sell ad views. Even if Google doesn't sell the ads directly this is the ultimate source of their revenue. That’s a big difference from the way that Apple operates.
Seeing as how Google also unveiled their own efforts towards digital health recently, it’ll be interesting to see if this is a true effort. Because reducing screen time for Android users runs directly in contradiction to the aims of their true customers who buy ad views. Something tells me that if this hurts Google’s bottom line too much that they’ll back off.
This is in contrast to Apple which derives their revenue from either device sales or monthly service charges. The screen time usage of their customers really makes no difference to Apple.
