I have loved using my 15 Pro Max this year more than any other iPhone. The camera has wowed me so many times and the battery life is downright heroic. I’m leaning towards not upgrading my iPhone this year. I’ve been on the every other year plan for a while now and I don’t see enough in the 16 Pro Max to make me change my plans.
The one thing that makes me feel weak is the new 48 megapixel wide angle lens. That REALLY looks appealing to me. But I don’t really take that many pictures with the wide angle lens that don’t look good. In brightly lit situations the current lens is great.
The one device that I have to have is the AirPods 4. I have the AirPods Pro 2s and they’re great. But I’ve never been in love with putting silicone tips inside my ears. I constantly have to adjust my left bud when I run because they wiggle out and I lose bass. I enjoy using my AirPod 3s so much more. They are more comfortable and the sound quality is great. But I can’t use them when mowing the lawn or flying in an airplane.
I can no longer live without active noise cancellation. So I use my AirPod Pros over my AirPod 3s. But I’m looking forward to trying the AirPod 4s. They seem like the perfect happy medium. Hopefully they are as comfortable as the AirPod 3s. But if they have even better sound quality and I can use them while mowing the lawn, I would be as happy as can be.
The other thing I’m really looking forward to is the gorgeous natural titanium Milanese Loop for my Ultra 2. I love the bigger beefier loops in the band! And the color of the metal should match my Ultra 2 a little better than stainless steel bands. Those new bands stole the show.
I thought the Apple Watch 10 was impressive. I’m even more tempted to get the Apple Watch 10 than I am the iPhone 16 Pro Max. But I’m an avid runner who uses my watch for everything. It’s the iPod on my wrist that I’ve always wanted. So I hit the battery hard with streaming Bluetooth and using cellular when I’m out on my daily runs. I absolutely need that larger Ultra battery.
I can’t really see any noticeable difference in the screen size between the Ultra 2 and 10. And I doubt the processor is significantly faster. The Apple Watch gets a new SiP every year but that doesn’t always mean a speed improvement. The Ultra 2 got a speed bump from the Ultra 1 and I don’t think there will be another speed bump for a year or two.
I thought it was a great event for Apple. They have shown their innovative chops in that amazing camera button and bringing noise cancellation to open design AirPods. Both of these are technical achievements to be proud of. And the new Milanese Loop for the Ultra 2 is a great design achievement. It’s a thing of pure beauty that does nothing else but make its user smile.
