I like the new world that Apple has created in which Apple becomes the software storehouse and official record keeper. So now, when I get a new iPad or computer it only takes a click of the mouse to reload all of my software applications. One-stop shopping.
I hated storing software codes so much that I specifically made sure to avoid any application not in the Mac AppStore. Now on my iPad it’s a non-issue since, gratefully, all software is only in the iOS AppStore. Back in the 90’s with a Windows laptop, I used to reserve a whole weekend to setup a new computer. Now I can be up and running with a new phone or laptop in under an hour. The AppStore is amazing.
Another thing I love about the AppStore is that only Apple knows who I am. Much to the chagrin of app developers “who want a direct connection with their customers”. Well, sorry, guys. I don’t want you to have my information. I trust Apple. But I don’t know who you are and I don’t trust you. You could be sitting in a Beijing government office for all I know.
And I don’t want to hear any griping from developers because they are missing out on a direct connection with their customer. This problem is nothing new. Any business that sells through Walmart or Amazon is in the same boat. Deal with it.
I hope that Apple never opens up iOS so that app developers can bypass it. But if they ever do. Any app developer that leaves the AppStore has lost me as a customer forever.
