For little Bluetooth earbuds, they really sound amazing. And it’s not just all about the bass. Yeah, the bass is improved, but you still get great instrument separation in the mids and highs as well. I find myself listening to music more and more over the past few months since I’ve purchased them.
My typical listening habits prior to the AirPods Pro 2 was maybe 90% podcasts and 10% music for times when I needed a little extra boost of energy. I’ve noticed that lately that ratio has almost exactly turned around. Now I’m listening to music 90% of the time and podcasts about 10%. My list of podcasts I’ll never get around to listening to is growing longer by the day. I’m going to start deleting shows pretty soon.
The reason is that I’m enjoying music so much more since I’ve started wearing the AirPods Pro 2. The original AirPods Pro were good. But not good enough to change my listening habits. In fact, I actually wore my AirPods 3s most of the time instead of the original AirPod Pros because I like how they don’t go into my ears. But with the new Pro 2s, I don’t care if they go into my ears. And I just want to listen to music all the time now. They are that good.
Are the AirPods Pro 2s as good as the AirPods Max? No, that is an easy question to answer. The Max still holds an edge in nearly every category except convenience. But the AirPod Pro 2s are not left in the dust. They are getting close to the Max in quality. Now, for me they are in the “good enough” category.
The situation is parallel to big professional type cameras and the iPhone camera. Can an iPhone camera rival a big multi-thousand dollar camera? No. But the iPhone camera is definitely in the “good enough” category where most people are happy to just carry only their iPhone camera on trips.
That is exactly where Apple has brought Bluetooth earbuds now. Like an iPhone camera, small Bluetooth earbuds are so much more convenient than its larger more expensive brother. But the quality tradeoff isn’t as bad as it used to be. So it’s winning the war.
