Those were dumb takes that ignored all the evidence to the contrary and I said so at the time. If you were listening to anyone with this opinion over the past year, I’d seriously reconsider reading or listening to anything else from that source. Apple has been steadily bringing more and more multi-tasking features to the iPad. For anyone to think that monitor support would be forbidden shows a high level of disconnection from reality.
I wasn’t surprised in the least today when Apple unveiled their new iPadOS which included greatly enhanced external monitor support. If you look at the progress of iPadOS over the last 3 years, there is no way you couldn’t come to the conclusion that having an extended desktop on an external monitor wasn’t the next logical progression. So since the last WWDC, I’ve been flabbergasted that any intelligent person could come to the conclusion that Apple was never going to allow the iPad to have improved monitor support. “Let the iPad be the iPad” they said. Or “Apple doesn’t want the iPad to intrude on the Mac” was another reason offered up.
