Now, some of these same pundits are raving about how awesome iOS Shortcuts are. I agree with them but I’m a little puzzled at their reaction. If they thought 3D Touch was a hard habit to start, they ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
3D Touch required no input from the user. Developers created all these pre-written little shortcuts everywhere. Like Bird’s electric scooters, 3D Touch shortcuts are just laying everywhere you go waiting to be used.
Contrast this with iOS Shortcuts. They don’t exist at all. In fact, you have to go out of your way to even get the Shortcuts app. Then you have to either search out useful shortcuts or create your own from scratch. And if you don’t think like a programmer, good luck. I briefly wondered if I’d try to teach my mother how to create shortcuts and settled on just creating them for her. Now I have to hope that she remembers the catch phrases.
iOS Shortcuts are great and I’m glad that Apple made this powerful feature possible. But lets be real about how many people are actually going to create and use them. It’ll be a smaller group of people than ever used 3D Touch.
