Of course, If I’m going to mow the lawn, do some vacuuming, or get on an flight I’m going to go look for my AirPods Pro. It’s situations like that in which they shine. The noise cancellation allows me to hear my podcasts with no problem. Perfect.
And that’s been my status quo for the past 3 years. The AirPods 2 or 3 were the default and the Pros were the special use tool. But these new 2nd generation AirPods Pro are really winning me over.
I don’t know what Apple changed. But these new Pros stay in my ears just fine when I’m out running now. I think the silicone material is a different recipe which leans more to grippy vs slick. I noticed that when I pull them out of my ears they turn inside out a lot more than the old ear tips.
These 2nd gens also feel more comfortable in my ears. I’m not getting as much pressure build up as before. But by far, the best thing is the sound quality enhancements. Before, I didn’t mind using the AirPods 3 because they sounded fairly close to the 1st generation Pros. But now, the 2nd generation Pros sound so much better, that I find myself wishing I had them on instead of my 3s when I listen to music. Not just when mowing the lawn, but any time.
And what is crazy is I thought the 1st generation Pros had excellent sound quality. I really enjoyed listening to music with ANC switched on. But these new Pros have better instrument separation and frequency range. Music sounds so good that I’m starting to wonder about keeping my AirPods Max around. Yeah, the AirPods Max still sound better but they can’t be used outside or when I’m very active due to heat buildup and weight.
Between the comfort and ergonomic improvements, I’m starting to use my 2nd gen AirPod Pros all the time. I can finally say say that the AirPod Pros are worthy of being your one pair of do everything ear buds. I used to tell my friends that the AirPods and AirPods Pro were a package deal. You used one when you went about your day and the other when you traveled or operated power equipment. But not any more. Now the AirPods Pro can replace your AirPods 3, and maybe even your Max too.
