I’ve long believed that tablets would replace laptop computers as the dominant form factor in the future. But for the first time, I’m seeing a major tech company agree with me. Check out this statement from Google which was reported by 9to5Google on Jan 27.

Apple has the iPad and Microsoft has the Surface Pro but what does Google have? It’s been a while since there was a concerted effort over at Google to make Android tablets. But it seems that they are now recognizing the error of their ways.
And it’s with good reason. Tablets are the logical form factor for the future. It allows you to use your screen in landscape or portrait mode. You don’t have to carry your keyboard with you all time meaning you can walk around the house with it. And it takes up much less space on your desk if you hook up to external components. Tablets are superior to laptops in multiple ways.
As I wrote a few weeks ago. Laptop computers are like internal combustion vehicles. They are still dominant in sales because the new technology isn’t really ready for prime time, but it’s very close. Plus, customer habits take a long time to change for products which are purchased every 3-8 years.
