Long-Press Sucks
Ok, so I’ve heard the rumors that Apple was going to stop offering 3D Touch completely in future iPhones. I won’t like it, but so be it. However, I figured I could continue to smugly use 3D Touch on my own iPhone XS indefinitely.
Lo and behold, after installing the latest iOS 13 Beta, 3D Touch is gone. I immediately could tell the difference. It’s like having to hold down the toilet handle until it flushes. Sure, it’s only a second longer, but it’s so annoying. Once you get used to the responsiveness of 3D Touch, using long-press sucks. 3D Touch at its best is like pressing a physical button. If you like real buttons, than you like 3D Touch.
I describe myself as using 3D Touch smugly, because truth be told, using it gives me a sense of superiority. I feel like I’m using something that requires higher intelligence or greater memory ability. And if you bought an Android phone? Well, you made your bed, now you gotta lie in it.
But now, because most people never took the time to use it, Apple is going to take it away? Not cool Apple. If 80% of your employees can’t remember to wash their hands after they’re done are you going to remove sinks from your restrooms? I think not.
How long before Apple kills Shortcuts too? I really like Shortcuts but I doubt as many people as used 3D Touch will ever create custom shortcuts. For all of you fans of Shortcuts, don’t get too attached.
