One of the reasons why I gravitate towards a tablet versus a laptop is that I like being able to walk around the house with my iPad. Sure, you could walk around with a laptop, but it just doesn’t seem right. For starters, a laptop is heavier than a tablet. And it feels so awkward if you hold it with the screen open. Also, I don’t know if this is justified, but I feel that if I drop my iPad Pro, it’s going to withstand the impact better than a laptop. The same with water splashes or humidity.
An iPad with a kickstand is also much easier to place around the house than a laptop because the footprint is so much smaller. I love watching video while putting away my clean laundry. If I’m in the middle of a YouTube video and see that it’s time to go wash up for bed, I can take my iPad and place it on the bathroom counter. It fits on the soap ledge in my shower, my tool rack in my garage, or on my nightstand. But what makes all of this possible is the kickstand.
The kickstand also makes using it on your lap when you’re watching TV so much nicer than a laptop. With a laptop, the keyboard gets in the way of snacks. But if you’re watching a movie with a bucket of popcorn and need your IMDB machine to be handy, the iPad is perfect. Since I can remove the keyboard, my popcorn can sit right in front of me.
The fact that the only way I can get a kickstand for my iPad is via an external case is also the reason that I’ve never used Apple’s Magic Keyboard. Sorry Apple, but if using your keyboard means that my iPad loses its kickstand, then I guess I’m not using your keyboard. Don’t make me choose between your keyboard or Logitech’s kickstand, because you’re going to lose every time.
