I can finally travel with a single pair of headphones. I used to take my AirPods to listen to podcasts or music while walking through the airport. However, they were not powerful enough to let me listen to movies while sitting in the airplane. I used to always bring another set of either in-ear headphones or big over-the-ear cans. But even though those sounded great, they seemed more finicky with moving between my Apple Watch and iPhone and were a pain to carry around.
Plus, as I had written about earlier, I can finally listen to podcasts while mowing the lawn. And if there is ever a great time to listen to podcasts, it’s while doing yard work. I’m a big noise-cancellation convert.
My Apple Watch Is Finally a Real Watch
You can save a large amount of money either by making small deposits on a frequent basis or large deposits once in a while. Either way it can add up to a significant impact. I feel the same way about the impact of new tech on my life.
New tech makes a big difference in my life either by being a big new feature that I used once in a while or something small that I use all the time. And the always-on display of my new Series 5 Apple Watch is the perfect example of something small that I’m always using. Countless times per day I glance down at my wrist to see what time it is. I’m so happy that I’m no longer greeted by a black void which requires me to turn my wrist. Yeah, it’s small, but I probably benefit from this over 20 times per day. And telling the time is the main purpose of a watch.
I’ve heard so many pundits applaud Apple for finding the Apple Watch’s higher calling, fitness. Well, they’re all wrong. The primary purpose of any watch should be to tell you what time it is. Period. Fitness and everything else is secondary to this main mission. Prior to the Series 5, my Apple Watch was a gadget that could tell time if I really wanted it to. Now, with the Series 5, it’s a watch first and gadget that can do all kinds of other things second.
iPhone 11 Night Mode
Prior to the iPhone 11, I had always accepted the fact that low-light photography was terrible. That’s because all the cheap little camera’s I used to use in the 80’s and 90’s were also barely usable in dim settings.
And the sad reality is that a huge amount of my photos are taken when lighting really isn’t that great. We might be sitting in Applebee’s or indoors where the lighting isn’t that great. Unlike Apple’s model photos, my family isn’t outdoors walking in front of the waterfalls of New Zeeland very often.
But Apple’s new Night mode is awesome. My iPhone 11 Pro Max camera seems so much more useable than my iPhone XS. I’m taking photos way more because they look so great in low light situations. Low light photography rocks on the iPhone 11 or 11 Pro.
Apple Stuff I’m NOT Thankful For
- For some reason, I still hate that the power and volume buttons are opposite each other. I take so many unwanted screen shots or accidentally turn my screen off when I simply want to turn the volume down. This never happened when the power button was on top.
- Loading music on the Apple Watch is still a pain. Come on Apple, it’s been four years since the Apple Watch came out and I still need to have the device on a power dock to load music? I want to open my Watch app, click an icon which brings up my music or podcast library, and then start downloading songs or playlists while my watch is on my wrist. Is that so hard?
