Step 2 – Add a 7” screen to make video calling possible
Step 3 – Make it thinner and give it an all-day battery so that it’s portable.
Step 4 – Add a small pocket-sized version with cellular so that you can take it with you out of the house.
I’ve questioned recently how strong an allure intelligent assistance really would be in attracting people to a specific platform. At the time, I had Google in mind. But perhaps Amazon will take this angle. Get people hooked on Alexa. Then try to make the case that getting an Amazon phone would be even more convenient because you’ll have Alexa everywhere and she’ll be able to handle your calendar, messages, etc. It’s kind of what makes me like iOS so much. The whole inter-connected ecosystem.
If Amazon doesn’t get back into phones I’m comfortable saying that the Echo has peaked and that before long Google, Apple, or both will start to take their market share away. If Amazon does get back into phones then it gets very interesting.
