RIP Terry Siegel
Back in December I had written about Hollywood actor Rob Schneider regretting taking the family Tesla on a trip. His wife had warned him that it was always “breaking down”. It would inexplicably lose power leaving her stranded in the middle of the road. While Rob was driving his Tesla, it did indeed “break down”. He said that he was afraid for his life since he could have been killed if the cars whizzing by had crashed into him.
Today I ran across this news article about an unlucky Tesla owner who had exactly this happen to him. His car went dead on the highway and he came to a standstill. Another car crashed into him, killing him.
A lot of people seem to think that since EVs have less moving parts that they are less susceptible to breaking down. Tesla seems to be doing it’s best to prove this belief wrong. They break down alright. And their reliance on software seems to be a newly invented way of breaking down.
If your cell phone has an unexpected reboot it’s usually no big deal. But if it happens to your Tesla, you could end up pushing daisys like Terry Siegel.
