Apple's Mac Pro: Made in the USA

Regardless of who is sitting in the Oval Office, computer companies always maintain at least some manufacturing presence in the United States. That’s because there are two very large and very important customers who make it worth their while. Those would be the American Military and the Government of Israel.
For whatever reason, these two entities refuse to buy computers that are assembled outside of the United States. When I worked for Gateway Computers we always maintained a manufacturing unit that did nothing but fulfill orders to the US armed forces or the state of Israel. It was fenced off and access was strictly controlled. Also, any changes to the components were strictly forbidden unless there was explicit permission from the customer.

Unlike all of Apple’s (AAPL) other computers, the Mac Pro is made in the United States. It also hasn’t changed much in three years. This may be purely coincidental but it reminds me of the business we used to do with these special government contracts.

Has the Mac Pro been drafted into military duty? Is it being used in clandestine operations by the CIA or the Mossad? Unless you work at Apple and have high level access to their sales data or manufacturing facilities you would never know.

I always thought of the Mac Pro as being more of a creative movie maker’s kind of PC. But if for some reason, government’s were using it that would explain a few things.

  1. Why do they keep selling it?
  2. Why don’t they lower its price?
  3. Why hasn’t it been updated?

This is just wild speculation with no basis in reality. And it’s probably a ridiculous idea that government entities would want to buy the Mac Pro. But hey, I'm an accountant, not a techie. And the more I think about it, the more the pieces fit
